Inspiration to get outside and enjoy the UK Countryside
We Should Walk More ….. and Stop More
Our mental health is important. Even more so after the various Lockdowns and stresses we’ve all been through lately!
We sometimes forget how a simple walk in the countryside can start to reset our stress and anxiety levels. To remind myself I’ve set a 2022 goal – Every week I will walk a different route, and on each one, I will stop to enjoy the views, sounds (and smells!) of the UK Countryside.
My walks are usually based around the Bath area, but sometimes, if time allows, I go further afield. Each walk I complete will be added to this site and hopefully give you walking inspiration for your next outside destress.

Walks
Castle Combe & Ford Wonderful Valleys Walk
If you are looking for a 3 hour walk around Castle Combe then look no further. This is one of our best walks to date. A stunning walk around the Valleys between Castle Combe and Ford. The walk has two natural refreshment stops, with multiple pubs and cafes in Castle...
Solsbury Hill and Charmy Down Walk
Charmy down is a great place to walk but there are very few ways to the top from the Batheaston side that do not require a heart-thumping steep hill. This is the easiest way up Charmy Down and uses a private road that gently ascends the hill and takes you right to the...
Ashwicke to Marshfield
An easy flattish walk that can be started from the layby in Ashwick or from Marshfield High Street. The walk is on open footpaths and bridleways and has many patches of flowing garlic and Bluebells in April. The route from Marshfield to Askwick is along an open...
Corsham Court Walk
To the east of Corsham there is a large open park that can be seen from the main road between Corsham and Chippenham. However, it is not until you venture into the park that you realise just how large it is and the significance of Corsham Court. This is a great sunny...
Limestone Link and Cotswold Way
This walk starts at the start of the Linkstone Link and finishes on the Cotswold way. It passes through two of the most picturesque valleys to the East of Bath.
Colerne to Box – Wonderful Valleys Walk
This is my first walk from Colerne and I can say that it will probably be the first of many. I walked this on a grey March day but the views were still fantastic. There are so many valleys on this walk that you constantly stop and look up or across a new view. The...

A Walk from the Wild Edge: A journey of self-discovery and human connection
A walk From the Wild Edge by Jake Tyler is one of the inspirations for this website. Jake finds himself in a very dark place and with the help of his family, friends and his Mum's dog, uses a walking challenge to correct his course and find a way to enjoy and embrace...

5 Reasons I Love OS maps Online
Maps are both a work of art and a document that tells you so much about the history of where we are standing or looking. Until recently my shelf of maps just kept growing - now I use the OS online Maps service. People rely too much on their mobile phones these days...
