This is one of my favourite shorter walks, often done on a Saturday morning with a coffee stop (and sometimes cake or lunch) along the way.
The walk can also be started from central Bath by joining the canal at Sydney Gardens and walking to the Larkhall Path off the Canal. It makes a more interesting walk than the popular “walk to the George for Lunch” walk that is popular for people living in Bath on a Sunday.
Having said that, The George at Bathamapton is one of the possible locations for Lunch or Coffee but there are others too. The Cafe on the Barge at Bathampton is one of my sunny day favourites. Coffee and Bacon Panini sitting by the side of the canal on a sunny day is one of life’s simple pleasures.
In Batheaston you can choose between Robbies Place and Gather, In Larkhall there is the Larkhall Deli and Ma Cusine and in Bathford there is the Crown.
And of course, there is the walk – nearly forgot about the walk!
The best part of the walk is the view from the side of Solsbury Hill. The climb up is done on small roads from Larkhall, and although the roads are steep in parts they are usually clear of traffic and on a muddy day there is no slip-sliding your way up any hills.
In the interest of research, I have personally eaten in all the places mentioned above and can recommend them all.

I really enjoyed doing part of this walk, from Batheaston down into Larkhall. I didn’t comment before as I didn’t follow your exact instructions, but this website is called walking inspiration … and is giving me great ideas for new walks locally. Thank you. Please keep posting.
