This walk is the quickest and easiest way up Little Solsbury Hill and ideal if you are wanting to get to the top for the sunrise. This is a popular activity on a bright sunny morning but you definitely want to check the weather forecast before you plan this walk.

The route leaves from a large layby on the turn off on the A46 and heads up the “back” of Solsbury Hill. Once at the top you can do a lap of the flat top going anticlockwise.

The hill is one of several possible locations of the Battle of Badon and shows the remains of a medieval field system. The hill was the inspiration of the Peter Gabriel song “Solsbury Hill“, recorded in 1977.

Just as you approach the top of the hill on your right-hand side there is a a small labyrinth was cut into the turf by protesters during the widening of the A46 in 1994.

Little Solsbury Hill offers some of the best views of Bath and surrounding Valleys.

Once you have enjoyed the view it is time to head down to Seven Acres Lane and up to the Chilcombe Bottom nature reserve (the old Wessex water reservoir) before heading back to the start via the wonderful Chilcombe Bottom Valley.
